The Suwalki corridor will be the first line of defense if Russian Federation troops try to invade Lithuania.
In the territory of the Suwalki corridor, located between the territory of Belarus and Russian Kaliningrad, local residents are actively participating in the Lithuanian volunteer movement Strelka. On Thursday, June 30, CNN reported.

Speaking to reporters, Egidijus Papetskis, commander of the 4th Regional Rifle Command, said that after Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, the number of people willing to join the militia had increased sharply.
“Currently, there are about 12,000 volunteers. And this number is increasing ten times per month,” he said.
He clarified that if initially, after the start of the war in Ukraine, the number of recruits who wanted to join was from 10 to 12 people, now there are more than 100 people a month.
“We remember the Soviet occupation and we don’t like being occupied. We are free people,” Papetskis said.
Recall, on June 18, Lithuania blocked railway transit in the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation up to 50% of the goods that fell under EU sanctions.
This provoked a strong reaction in the Kremlin. The press secretary of Russia’s leader Dmitry Peskov, called Lithuania’s restrictions “unprecedented and illegal,” and Andrey Klimov, head of the Federation Council’s commission for the protection of state sovereignty, vowed to solve Vilnius’s “impudent trick” somehow.
Later, the Security Council threatened the people of Lithuania of “consequences.”
