Ukrenergo is completing the construction of the first stage of protective structures and has disclosed the cost of the materials used.
On August 19, the company reported that it had finalized the construction of the first stage of anti-drone protection of high-voltage equipment at 41 of the company’s facilities. The State Agency for the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine is completing the construction of the first stage of protection at another 22 of the company’s facilities.
Ukrenergo is constructing protective structures at its substations in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated December 27, 2022 No. 1482.
The technical project has been implemented only at Ukrenergo high-voltage substations. Ukraine is the first country in the world to invent a comprehensive solution for physical protection against UAV strikes. Protective reinforced concrete structures can withstand a direct hit from “shaheeds”, the most dangerous for high-voltage network facilities, and protect equipment from missile debris.
Protective structures have already been built at the vast majority of substations. According to calculations, damage from Russian drone strikes on power transmission facilities without protective structures would be 5-6 times greater.
The project to build anti-drone protection is fully financed by international financial organizations – the IBRD, the EIB, the EBRD and KfW. Not a single hryvnia from the Ukrainian budget was spent on the construction of protective structures.
To ensure maximum transparency of the work, Ukrenergo has provided the cost of the main materials, which form 50-60% of the cost of all materials used in the construction of structures and similar shelters. Current prices for materials are lower than the starting prices of contracts.
Ukrenergo has begun concluding contracts with contractors for the construction of the second stage of protective structures at our facilities. The prices for materials in these contracts fully correspond to those indicated above.
