The British government is keen to avoid any “uncertainty or nervousness” about the issue, writes The Sunday Times.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Defense Minister John Healey decided to be open about the use of British weapons by Ukraine on Russian territory. This was reported by The Sunday Times, citing sources in the British government.
The media say this is not so much a policy change as a tone correction aimed at more clearly covering the UK’s role in supporting Ukraine.
London confirmed the use of Challenger 2 tanks by the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region. The media also recalled that the Defense Forces were using British drones, although their type was not disclosed, the journalists recalled.
A government source stressed that the UK would not deny that its weapons were used in Russia as part of the defense of Ukraine.
“We don’t want any uncertainty or nervousness about supporting Britain at this critical moment, and a semi-serious or vague response would show that,” the source said.
As we wrote earlier, Keir Starmer instructed the country’s National Security Council to develop a plan for expanded support for Ukraine.
