The SBU confirmed the capture of 102 Russian servicemen in the Kursk region, among the prisoners are officers of the Akhmat unit
Yesterday we carried out a filigree operation, as a result of which 102 Russians were captured. In the future, we are already thinking about how to use this most effectively to return our defenders home, – said the head of the SBU Vasyl Malyuk at a joint briefing with the heads of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Human Rights Commissioner.
Currently, military counterintelligence and the SBU are working with captured Russians. In particular, to document war crimes committed in the war in Ukraine.
Once the prisoners testify, the Ukrainian side will be able to negotiate their exchange with the Russian Federation.
According to him, the negotiating group, which was engaged in preparing exchanges on behalf of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, is now expanding. In particular, it will include representatives of the SBU, GUR, MVD, VSU, SVR and the ombudsman.
This concerns the organization of exchanges not only for military personnel, but also for civilians, some of whom have been illegally held in Russia since 2014.
