Metropolitan Epiphanius of the OCU appealed to the UOC MP with a call for dialogue on unification.
The Primate of the OCU noted that he had never abandoned attempts to overcome church divisions in Ukraine, but his previous requests had gone unanswered.
The statement came as the Verkhovna Rada prepares to consider a bill banning the activities of religious organizations associated with Russia.
On Thursday, the Ukrainian president, in an address to citizens, said that there are “important legislative initiatives in parliament that strengthen our independence, including spiritual independence, as well as government work on implementation.”
In an address published on the official website of the Supreme Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epiphanius proposed that the rector, bishops and priests of the UOC MP “begin a dialogue on unity without any preconditions.”
According to Epifania, Onufriy had previously announced demands for the beginning of dialogue: first of all, to reject the decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to grant the tomos and to stop accepting parishes wishing to unite with the WTO.
The rector of the OCU noted that he never abandoned attempts to overcome church divisions in Ukraine, despite the fact that his requests remained unanswered.
As of 20:00 on August 15, there was no response to Metropolitan Epifaniy’s appeal on the UOC MP website or its social media pages.
