Canonical law and order, as well as Tomos, specify that all Orthodox church institutions within Ukraine must be in unity of organization and jurisdiction.
The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), Metropolitan Epifaniy, called on the Primate of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Onuphry, to continue the dialogue on the unity of the Orthodox Church on the territory of Ukraine. He said this in a speech on Thursday, August 15.
“I want to return the appeal on behalf of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine to you, Vladyka, to the hierarchs, clergy and believers who recognize you as their Primate: for the good and strengthening of the Orthodox Christian faith in Ukraine, for the sake of the Church of Christ, for the sake of protecting the truth from attempts to distort it – without delay start a dialogue,” Epifaniy said in his address.
He recalled that for a long time, for various reasons of both ecclesiastical origin and, to a greater extent, external, the Orthodox Church in Ukraine experienced divisions, but the Council in Hagia Sophia on December 15 , 2018 made all the decisions in which it was convened and created a firm canonical basis for the only Orthodox Church of Ukraine, as Local, which received the Tomos of autocephaly.
Therefore, today the canon law and order, as well as the Tomos, determine that all the institutions of the Orthodox church within Ukraine must be in unity of organization and jurisdiction, as the only Local Orthodox Church .
Therefore, the OCU once again called on MP representatives “without preconditions” to start a dialogue about unity.
Let’s recall that earlier in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the city of Kamen-Kashirsky, Volyn region, there was a conflict between supporters of the UOC-MP and the OCU. A crush appeared between those gathered.
