Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has received the right to suspend media work for discrediting the country’s Armed Forces and calling for sanctions.
The State Duma of the Russian Federation has enacted a law closing out -of -court media outlets for disseminating fake news. This was reported on June 30 by the Interfax news agency.
He noted that the document will allow the Prosecutor General’s Office to revoke media registration and initiate a ban on access to Internet resources for spreading “fakes”, discrediting the Russian Armed Forces and calling for sanctions .
By law, in the first violation, the Prosecutor General or his representative will make that request Roskomnadzor on suspension of media activities for a period not exceeding three months, in case of repeated violations, an order is made for a period not exceeding six months.
At the same time, if within three or six months the media removes the violations, it will be able to resume its activities.
In the event of a repeated violation, the registration of a media outlet may expire.
Also, the Prosecutor General’s Office will be able to ban foreign media “when it is confirmed that hostile decisions were made by foreign states in relation to Russian media distributed abroad.”
