Due to the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region, Russia was forced to withdraw military personnel from the Kaliningrad region, which pleased the Lithuanians.
After the start of fighting in the Kursk region, Russia moved military personnel from the Kaliningrad region there. Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Laurynas Kasciunas announced this during a meeting with President Vladimir Zelensky on Tuesday, August 13.
“Allow me to express respect for your actions, your maneuvers in the north,” Kasciunas said.
He noted that he does not believe that Ukraine has crossed any red line in the Kursk region. He considers this a good sign, and the next good sign in this context is the permission for Ukraine to use long-range weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation. Lithuania is now lobbying for this, Kasciunas added.
“I say to the Lithuanian people: “Look how the Ukrainians are fighting for you, because because of their struggle they [России] We have to withdraw troops from Kaliningrad.” We even call this “demilitarization” of Kaliningrad, which is happening thanks to your military courage, thanks to your decision,” the Lithuanian official emphasized.
He added that the operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region supported the morale of not only Ukraine, but also the Lithuanian society, and the Lithuanians want to support the Ukrainians even more.
As reported, Zelensky and Kasciunas on Tuesday discussed the development of the military-industrial complex and Ukraine’s priority defense needs.
It is also known that the Russian Federation is moving troops from the occupied territories of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
