Ukraine failed to maintain permission to launch British Storm Shadows in Russia’s Kursk region.
The UK government has not given Ukraine permission to use these cruise missiles to strike Kursk region. Despite efforts by President Volodymyr Zelensky to lift restrictions on the use of these munitions, London’s position remains unchanged. This was reported by The Telegraph.
“No changes have occurred,” a government source noted.
According to the publication, in July, during a visit to Great Britain, Zelensky asked to lift restrictions on strikes by British weapons on Russian territory.
As is known, Storm Shadow missiles with a range of about 250 km could allow the Ukrainian army to attack airfields and logistics centers that they use to strengthen their positions in the Kursk region.
Former British tank commander Gamish de Bretton-Gordon told reporters that Storm Shadows could hit “railway junctions and key roads leading into Kursk, as well as any airfields within a 100-mile radius.” And authorizing the use of the missiles would demonstrate the West’s resolve to support Kyiv.
Recall that on August 12, President Volodymyr Zelensky drew parallels in his evening address between the sinking of the Kursk submarine in 2000 and the Ukrainian Armed Forces operation in the Kursk region in 2024. He emphasized that the current events in this region are a “catastrophe of Putin’s war.”
