Bed bugs can jump into suitcases, bags, or hide in clothes and move to another continent.
Those returning home from France from the 2024 Olympics are greeted at Incheon, South Korea’s main airport, by a service dog looking for bugs on arrival. The Independent wrote this on Monday, August 12.
“This is done to reduce the risk of small insects entering the country when athletes, officials and fans return from the Paris Olympics,” the statement said.
A two-year-old beagle named Seko is said to be sniffing out bugs. The animal is the first and so far the only dog in the country trained to detect the smell of pheromones released by bugs.
It is indicated that a dog can find small parasites within minutes.
Seko and his team were called on Friday as more athletes and officials began arriving from Paris. The corresponding work will last until September 8.
As a reminder, South Korea sent 144 athletes to the Paris 2024 competition, which ended on Sunday.
Planes arriving directly from Paris are disinfected once a week, compared to the usual once a month, and the airport’s quarantine service is ready to take the necessary action if an outbreak is detected on the plane or airport.
