The nuclear power plant in Kurchatov, which is one of the three largest nuclear power plants in the country, is preparing to repel an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Kursk nuclear power plant in the Russian city of Kurchatov is being prepared for defense. After lunch on Friday, August 9, security forces blocked the entrances to the nuclear power plant, local media wrote.
It is noted that in the units of the nuclear power plant under construction, all are de-energized to leave the site.
“Obviously, the nuclear power plant is being prepared to repel an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. No official information has been received yet,” the message said.
Earlier, Important Stories wrote, citing a source, that all men were removed to protect the nuclear power plant, leaving only female members of the National Guard. Currently, the Russian Guard has reported on strengthening security at the Kursk NPP. A station employee today confirmed important stories that the Russian Guard’s male warrant officers have been reinstated.
As the publication notes, Kursk NPP is now the only station in Russia where new modern power units are actively being built. In 2023, the reactor vessel was delivered for construction.
It was also reported that the management recommended that the employees of the nuclear power plant take a vacation at their own expense and evacuate the children. In addition, since August 7, shift workers have been leaving the construction site of the nuclear power plant – these are 10 thousand construction workers living in the 40 thousand population of Kurchatov, where the station is located.
Rosatom confirmed that it has reduced the number of construction workers at the Kursk NPP-2.
Let’s recall that on Friday morning the mayor of Kurchatov reported that military operations were taking place tens of kilometers from the city’s borders.
In the evening it became known that Kurchatov, as well as other areas of the region, were left without electricity. Local authorities said the cause was a fire at an electrical substation due to a UAV attack.
