Mali expels the Swedish ambassador for stopping aid to support Russia

The Swedish government previously decided to end the bilateral aid approach for Mali in 2024.

Mali has decided to expel Sweden’s ambassador after Stockholm announced it would end bilateral aid to the African country. This was reported by the Reuters news agency in connection with a statement by the Mali Foreign Ministry.

The Swedish ambassador was ordered to leave the country within 72 hours.

The department explained the decision with a “hostile” statement from the Swedish Minister of International Development Cooperation and Trade, Johan Forssell.

Note that Sweden’s Minister of International Development Cooperation and Trade, Johan Forssell, previously announced the government’s decision to end the bilateral aid approach for Mali in 2024.
“You cannot support Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine and at the same time receive several hundred million crowns annually through development aid,” the Swedish official said.
