The occurrence of a severe fire near the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, temporarily occupied by Russia, threatens its external power supply.
The outbreak of a severe fire near the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, temporarily occupied by the Russians, becomes one of the challenges facing Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, threatening external power supplies. This was reported by the press service of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Thursday, August 8.
It is indicated that last week IAEA experts recorded fires several times at different distances from Zaporizhia NPP and nearby villages.
“In particular, smoke is visible to the north of the Zaporizhia NPP,” the document said.
The fire broke out under the overhead cables of the 750 kilovolt Dneprovskaya line and the reserve 1330 kV Ferrosplavnaya power line – the last two external power lines powering the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
“As the summer heat continues, fires along the remaining routes of two lines put the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant at risk of losing external power supply Although none of the lines have been cut at this time , the situation underlines the vulnerability of the situation ,” the IAEA said.
A permanent IAEA mission will be present at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia NPP from September 2022.
On August 7, in the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which is controlled by Russian troops, another rotation of personnel of the permanent monitoring mission took place.
We remind you that, according to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, the water level in the cooling pond of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant continues to drop due to the heat.
