People’s Deputy from the Servant of the People party Zhan Beleniuk brought Ukraine a bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling (weight up to 87 kg) at the 2024 Olympics.
Beleniuk put a bronze Olympic point in his career. At the 2016 Games, he was a silver medalist, in Tokyo in 2021 he became an Olympic champion and this was the only victory of the Ukrainians at the Olympics.
In Paris, Greco-Roman wrestler Jean Beleniuk won a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Fighting in the 87 kg weight class, Beleniuk began the competition on August 7 with a victory over Qian Haitao (China). In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian was better than Nursultan Tursinov (Kazakhstan). But in the semifinals, the titled 33-year-old Kyivian lost to Alireza Mohmadipiani (Iran) by the last effective action.
On Thursday, August 8, in the bronze final, Beleniuk met with the representative of Poland Arkadiusz Kulinich and won 3:1. After winning the fight, Beleniuk traditionally danced the hopak.
In 2019, Beleniuk ran as number 10 on the Servant of the People party list.
The wrestler and current MP took off his wrestlers after performing at the 2024 Olympics. This symbolic gesture signifies the end of his sports career.
