Michael Brodsky assured that such talks were held, but a decision was never made due to new threats to his country.
The decision to move the Israeli Patriot air defense system to Ukraine has not been made so far due to Israel facing threats from Iran. This is what Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
“As far as I know, there is no final decision, but if you look at the current situation in Israel, we need all the air defense systems that exist in Israel, including the Patriot system,” the diplomat said.
According to him, Israel has many layers of air defense, but the Iron Dome cannot withstand long-range missiles and ballistics. It is primarily designed to intercept short-range rockets fired into Israel by Hamas militants.
“We have other systems, mainly Israeli-American developments and the Patriot is not the most advanced system, which Israel received in the early 90s before the first Gulf War fired a Russian-made Scud missiles to Israel And then the “Patriots” saved us,” assured the Israeli ambassador.
He added that there are reportedly talks about decommissioning obsolete Patriot installations so that they can be moved to Ukraine in the future, but no final decision has been made yet.
