The African country of Niger announced on Tuesday, August 6, that it was immediately cutting diplomatic ties with Ukraine over its alleged “support for terrorist groups.” This was reported by Al Arabiya.
A spokesman for the government of Niger, where a military junta is currently in power, Amadou Abdramane said his country “approached the United Nations Security Council to make a decision on the Ukrainian invasion.”
A few days earlier, for the same reason, Mali broke diplomatic relations with Ukraine. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called it “a short-sighted decision by the transitional government of the Republic of Mali.”
Let us recall that on July 26 last year, part of the Niger Presidential Guard spoke against President Mohamed Bazoum. He was captured and removed from power. Army General Abdurahman Tchiani was declared as the new leader of the country.
