The High Council of Justice (HCOJ) has decided to dismiss Knyazev, a judge of the Cassation Administrative Court within the Supreme Court.
This was reported by the Obshchestvennoye newspaper on August 6.
He is accused of receiving a bribe of $2.7 million. In January 2024, Knyazev, after posting bail of more than UAH 18 million, was released from the pretrial detention center. The bail was reduced seven times.
The VRP also decided to dismiss Judge Tandyr, accused of committing a fatal traffic accident while intoxicated in Kyiv on May 26, 2023, which resulted in the death of a National Guardsman.
History of the case
On July 18, the High Council of Justice upheld the decision of the First Disciplinary Chamber, which had submitted a motion to dismiss Judge Vsevolod Knyazev. Ten members of the HRC voted for this decision.
The case concerns the rent of a 4-room apartment in Kyiv for 1000 UAH per month. Earlier, the courts found Knyazev guilty of violating restrictions on receiving gifts.
Knyazev, who returned from vacation, said that there were actually two lease agreements for the apartment. There was also an agreement for a cost of $1,100 per month.
I can swear on my children that there was a contract for 1,100 dollars, Knyazev told the VRP members.
Moreover, the court had already examined this version of events earlier and found that it did not correspond to reality.
In particular, in his first explanations to the NAPC, Knyazev attached a copy of the agreement, which mentioned the amount of 1,000 UAH, and in no way mentioned any other lease agreement for the amount of 1,100 dollars.
After this, the VRP decision had to make a separate final decision on the release of Knyazev.
Until Knyazev is fired, he continues to receive a salary. For 2023, Knyazev received UAH 3.3 million, although he did not administer justice for more than six months.
Let us recall that Knyazev’s case on bribes is already being considered by the VAKS. There is another complaint against Knyazev in the SRP, which concerns a corruption case, but its consideration is being delayed by SRP member Burlakov.
