At the airport, the security service took the personal bag of the President of Kosovo, but the President did not allow him to take his phone.
Kosovo has accused airport security in neighboring North Macedonia’s capital Skopje of violating international rules after an incident in which President Vjos Osman refused to hand over his mobile phone during a security check. RFE/RL reported it.
The incident reportedly took place on August 1 when Osmani was on his way to Slovenia.
Political adviser Osmani Bekim Kupina said that the behavior of Macedonian airport employees contradicts all international norms, according to which heads of state are protected by diplomatic privileges and immunity in travel
“By violating these rules, the Macedonian side took the President’s personal bag. Although it was against the rules, the President’s team allowed it to be done so that the President could enter the airport, specifically the VIP lounge , provided by a verbal note from our embassy, as is customary for heads of state, however, for security reasons, the president was not allowed to take his phone, because it would be a serious violation, “said Kupina.
He said the airport security officer “tried to physically push the president, forcing the Kosovo police to intervene to clear the way for Osmani.”
The incident was resolved when the Speaker of the North Macedonian Parliament, Afrim Gashi, personally arrived at the airport and helped Osmani and his escort continue their journey.
Macedonian authorities denied allegations of foul play but said they were investigating the conflict, and airport security said its officers were conducting a routine check at the airport on August 1.
It was learned that Kosovo and North Macedonia have diplomatic relations and so far no such incident has occurred.
It was previously reported that Spain recalled its ambassador to Argentina because of President Miley’s words. Miley called Sanchez Begon’s wife Gomez “corrupt”.
