The head of the Russian company Voentorg was imprisoned on the charge of theft on a large scale while executing contracts for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Radio Liberty writes about this in connection with the press service of the ministry.
The name of the detainee was not mentioned, but Vladimir Pavlov is listed as the company’s general director since 2012.
It was also reported that the company’s employees and accomplices were detained in Moscow, North Ossetia, Stavropol Territory and Pskov Region. They were charged with fraud on a large scale, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
“According to the investigation, from 2019 to 2022, the suspects bought products – “army toiletries” – through controlled organizations, then they sold them to the Ministry of Defense through contracts of the government for about 625 million rubles was inflated by 400 million,” it said in publications.
It was noted that Voentorg, which remains the sole supplier of service-owned clothing for the Russian army, has been cited in the corruption case of Russia’s former Deputy Minister of Defense Dmitry Bulgakov, who was recently arrested for providing low-quality food to the Russian troops at an inflated cost.
The arrest of the former head of the Construction Department of the Central Military District of the Military Construction Company, Sergei Sukhov, was also reported. At the end of July, military investigators opened a case against him for fraud on a particularly large scale. The work of the Military Construction Company was overseen by former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, who was arrested in April and accused of accepting bribes in the amount of more than one billion rubles from subcontractors.
