The construction of a fence on the Latvian-Belarusian border has been completed, Latvian radio and television portal LSM reported.
“The construction of a fence along the Latvian-Belarusian border with a length of about 145 km has been completed, reported the state company State Real Estate Until the end of this year, the construction of the necessary infrastructure will continue throughout length of the border, including patrol paths, pedestrian bridges and other solutions necessary for border protection,” the message said.
It is also reported that, under the leadership of the company, the development of border areas along the Western Dvina River and near Lake Ritchie is underway, where the construction of a fence is not planned. Work on these areas should be completed by the summer of 2025.
The total cost of the project is 125.35 million euros, including 3.6 million of which is financed from the funds of the European Union.
Earlier, the formal leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, traveled to the Brest region and announced the supposed “de-escalation” of the border with Ukraine.
The self-proclaimed president of the Republic of Belarus also plans to discuss “problems” in Ukraine with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in the near future.
