North Korean propaganda claims that the rescue operation is being led by Kim Jong-un.
North Korean propaganda reports that Kim Jong-un has arrived in the flooded North Pyongan region of the DPRK, located on the border with China. There, according to state North Korean media, about 5,000 people were rescued under the leadership of Kim Jong-un.
The North Korean dictator is said to have personally concluded that the level of danger in the region has been significantly exceeded and that the situation in the border town of Sinju is very serious.
Kim Jong-un was seen visiting an air force base and driving through flood waters in an SUV, according to the released images. Official reports said he was “supervising rescue efforts.”
In recent days, Typhoon Ghayemi has been causing heavy rainfall in parts of Asia, particularly in Taiwan and the Philippines. North Korea was not initially reported to be in a critical situation.
Last Friday, July 26, Kim Jong-un celebrated the 71st anniversary of the end of the Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953. The DPRK authorities believe that North Korea won the war.
