Fiber optic cables were cut in nine departments – Ardèche, Aude, Bouches-du-Rony, Drôme, Eure, Vaucluge, Marne, Maisy and Oisy, the French Telecommunications Federation reported. The network was damaged between 1:00 and 3:00 a.m. Crews are currently working to restore it, Bloomberg reports.
This sabotage did not affect the Olympics. However, this is the second time that French infrastructure has been attacked during the Games.
The high-speed rail network was paralysed by arson attacks on the eve of the Games, forcing some 800,000 passengers to “adjust their plans”.
