The Hungarian Prime Minister believes that the European Union should abandon its identity as a political project, and that Ukraine should not become a member of the EU or NATO.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that global power in the world will shift from the “irrational” West to Asia and Russia. He made this statement on Saturday, July 27, while addressing ethnic Hungarians on television at a festival in the Romanian city of Beille Tusnad, Reuters reports.
“In the next long decade, maybe even a century, Asia will be the dominant center of the world,” Orban said, naming China, India, Pakistan and Indonesia as major future world powers.
According to him, the “irrational” West pushed Russia to join this bloc.
In contrast to the “weakness” of the West, Russia’s position in world affairs is “hyper-rational” and predictable, he said, noting that Moscow has shown economic flexibility in adapting to sanctions by West since the 2014 invasion of Crimea.
According to Orban, Russia has become attractive to many countries because of its opposition to LGBT people.
He also said that Ukraine will never become a member of the EU or NATO, because “we Europeans don’t have enough money for it.”
“The EU must abandon its identity as a political project and become an economic and defense project,” added the pro-Russian politician.
It was previously reported that Hungary became the only EU country that did not sign the joint statement of fifty states condemning the Russian Federation at the UN Security Council.
