US to assign new forces to the eastern part of NATO

The NATO leadership will take a historic set of commitments to the deployment of forces. Contingents will remain in place even after the war in Ukraine.

U.S. authorities are set to announce on Wednesday that additional forces will be deployed to the eastern part of NATO. Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to the President of the United States, said this at a briefing on Tuesday, June 28th.

“Tomorrow, the United States will announce additional deployments of ground, air and naval forces for the long term,” Sullivan said.

He noted that at the NATO summit in Madrid, some countries will also announce an increase in their contribution to defense in the eastern part of the alliance, especially in the Balkans and Baltic countries.

According to Sullivan, the NATO leadership will take a historic set of commitments to the deployment of forces. Contingents will remain in place even after the war in Ukraine.

It was also learned that US President Joe Biden arrived at the NATO summit in Madrid.

A day before it was reported that NATO would expand combat groups in the east at the brigade level. The number of rapid readiness force will also increase to 300,000 people.
