An Italian court has convicted the parents of former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi of financial fraud and sentenced them to three years in prison. ANSA reported this on Wednesday, July 24.
Tiziano Renzi and Lauri Bovoli face several charges of creating false invoices for the cooperatives they control.
The couple used the cooperatives, of which they were de facto managers, to increase the turnover of the family company Eventi 6, and then they were evicted without paying social security contributions and taxes.
The parents of the former prime minister were able to avoid paying taxes in the amount of 1.2 million euros.
We remind you that Tiziano Renzi and Lauri Bovoli were arrested in 2019 and placed under house arrest. The prosecutor’s office asked that they be sentenced to five years in prison.
The case also includes Matteo Renzi’s sister, Matilda, who is accused of contributing to the cooperatives’ bankruptcy. The court acquitted the woman.
Matteo Renzi led the Italian government from February 2014 to December 2016.
