This was reported on the Anti-Corruption Action Center’s Telegram channel.
Yesterday, July 22, due to the absence of defense attorneys, the hearing on Odarchenko’s case did not take place – he terminated contracts with all of his defense attorneys (Koryukin, Mirolyubova and Litovka):
- According to the deputy, they disagreed on how to conduct the defense. Therefore, Odarchenko asked for time to find a new lawyer – and asked for the whole of August to do so;
- The SAP prosecutor indicated that she saw the defense’s behavior as a delaying tactic and asked to appoint a designated defense attorney;
- Judge Viktor Nogachevsky granted the motion partially and postponed the hearing for one week. If Odarchenko comes without a lawyer, a motion to hire a free lawyer will be considered.
It is noted that the reason why Odarchenko asked to postpone the hearing can be understood from the dialogue that took place between him and the judge during the preliminary hearing.
Odarchenko: Your Honor, July 22 is very inappropriate.
Judge: You say that from July 22, right?
Odarchenko: Well, it’s summer.
…
Odarchenko: The court is fair and merciful, so I kindly ask you not to schedule a hearing…
Judge: Andrey Nikolaevich, you are not at a university, not at school, you are in court. There must be a valid reason, according to the Criminal Procedure Code.
Odarchenko: If there is a valid reason for these dates, for August?
Judge: So you can’t do it in August, I understand?
Odarchenko: Well, I beg you, because this is terrible…
Judge: I don’t understand what you mean by horror?
Odarchenko: Well, there are a lot of meetings at the moment, no time to meet, no time to relax, no time with family at this time.
