A survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), conducted on May 16-22 and June 20-25, 2024, showed that the majority of citizens (55%) do not agree to territorial concessions to Russia to end the war.

The share of Ukrainians ready to make territorial concessions in order to quickly achieve peace and preserve independence was 32% in May 2024, but according to the survey, this number has increased significantly since May 2023.
At the end of 2023, 19% of Ukrainians were ready to make concessions to Russia, in February 2024 – 26%, and already in May 2024 – 32%.
At the same time, among those who are generally ready to make concessions, 73% want to fence off Russia – so that the borders between Ukraine and Russia are closed, visas and customs control are introduced (among those who are against any concessions, approximately the same number of respondents, 79%), support a similar approach.
Commenting on the results of the survey, KIIS Executive Director Anton Grushetsky considers it important that in the context of possible concessions, Ukrainians are against “peace on any terms.”
Although there is ambivalence in the views of Ukrainians (and this is a completely normal situation for democratic societies), it is not as striking as they are trying to present it, and the results of the survey show the flexibility of Ukrainians within the framework of a possible dialogue, Ukrainska Pravda quotes Grushetsky.
