A lock of Florence Nightingale’s hair fetched more than £3,500 at Tennants Auctioneers.

Florence Nightingale, founder of the first school of nurses, nursing reformer, missionary, saved soldiers during the Crimean War of 1853-1856. She was called the Lady with the Lamp because she went around the wounded with a lamp in her hand.
A lock of hair, believed to have been cut in 1883 when she was 63, was sold with her signature on a scrap of paper, a leather-bound copy of Burial Orders for the Dead published for her funeral in 1910 , and a small copy of the Book of Job from the Old Testament.
Before being sold at auction, these items were kept by the descendants of his sister Frances. Now they have been acquired by a private buyer, whose name has not been disclosed.
