The Hungarian government should not create the impression that it represents the EU during trips to China or the Russian Federation, the head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry emphasized.
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen believes that we should think about Hungary staying in the EU if the values of this country are very different from the values of the European Union. This was reported by the publication Iisalmen Sanomat.
Hungary, in its bilateral diplomacy, should not represent or give the impression that it represents the EU when its Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, for example, visits Moscow and Beijing, Valtonen emphasized.
Hungary’s views do not match the EU’s official line, the Finnish official added.
“Of course, it is something for each individual country but at some point it is worth asking if the European Union is the right group if the ideas are fundamentally different from our common values,” said foreign minister
Valtonen added that he is not sending Hungary a signal that the country should reconsider its EU membership.
As you know, Hungary became the only EU country that did not sign a joint statement of fifty states condemning the Russian Federation at the UN Security Council.
