Old 500-hryvnia banknotes will be withdrawn from circulation and replaced with new ones. This will be done by banks. You can pay with old-style banknotes without restrictions.
The banknotes will be exchanged to remove worn-out, old cash from circulation. 500-hryvnia banknotes of the previous design were introduced into circulation back in 2003-2007.
The main goal of this decision is to improve the quality of cash in circulation, taking into account the wear and tear of old-style 500-hryvnia banknotes, which have been in circulation for almost 18 years, including more than the last eight years, simultaneously with modern-generation banknotes, the NBU explained.
