Drones were seen in the sky in Tuapse at night, but attempts by the Russians to shoot them down were defeated, a source in the Main Intelligence Directorate notes.
On the evening of July 22, Ukrainian military intelligence drones attacked an oil refinery in the city of Tuapse in the Krasnodar Territory and set fire to this facility of the Russian military-industrial complex. Ukrainskaya Pravda reported this with reference to a source in the Main Intelligence Directorate of the MOU.
The drones were spotted in the sky over Tuapse at about 3:30 local time. According to local public reports, in the first wave of the attack, Russian air defenses tried to shoot down four kamikaze drones.
Around 6:25 am, at least two more powerful explosions occurred in the refinery area, after which a fire broke out in the facility.
In total, at least eight UAVs were reported to have attacked the refinery. Propaganda media outlet Russia Today said the hit damaged the refinery’s infrastructure.
The extent of the damage to the Russian military-industrial complex facility is currently being clarified, the source added.
Tuapse Oil Refinery is a Russian oil refinery in the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation, operated by RN-Tuapse Oil Refinery LLC. The plant forms a single production complex with the marine terminal of the petroleum products supply enterprise of PJSC Rosneft – LLC RN-Marine Terminal Tuapse.
The refinery is part of the Rosneft oil company. Its capacity is about 12 million tons per year.
