A British news agency called the recent technical glitch one of the worst cyber incidents in history.
A global IT technical failure disabled 8.5 million Windows computers, which is less than 1% of all Windows devices in the world. The glitch was caused by security company CrowdStrike due to a software update. The BBC reported it.
Microsoft says it can very accurately determine how many devices are down due to the outage because it has telemetry of the performance of many of their internet connections.
The BBC is calling the recent outage one of the worst cyber incidents in history. The closest thing to this was the WannaCry cyberattack in 2017. Then about 300 thousand computers in 150 countries were affected. A month after that, an attack called NotPetya occurred.
In 2021, there was a major outage at Meta (which runs Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp) that lasted six hours.
CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz urged users to be cautious as hackers became more active amid the outage.
As you know, a large-scale technical failure worldwide has disrupted the work of airports, banks and the media. In particular, all flights of the main American companies – Delta, United Airlines and American Airlines – were canceled.
The planet stopped. Global IT failure
