It was his first conversation since his re-election as head of the European Commission. During the conversation, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strong US-EU relations and to jointly addressing the world’s biggest challenges, the White House press service reported.
The conversation also touched on Ukraine. The parties discussed not only further support for Kyiv, but also attempts to hold the aggressor country Russia accountable for its invasion.
Von der Leyen commented on the conversation with the American leader on the X social network. Thanking the US President for his greeting, she noted that the United States and the European Union face common challenges in Europe, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region.
Let us recall that on July 18, Ursula von der Leyen was elected head of the European Commission for a second term. 401 members of the European Parliament voted for her appointment, 284 voted against. A total of 707 members took part in the voting procedure.
