The investigation believes that the detainees belong to the hacker group NoName057(16), which appeared after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Spanish law enforcement officials detained three men for their possible involvement in cyber attacks on government agencies and strategic sectors of Spain and NATO countries. Europa Press reported this on Saturday, July 20.
The hackers were detained in the Balearic Islands and Andalusia. Their homes were searched and computers and documentary materials were confiscated.
The investigation believes that those detained belong to the hacker group NoName057(16), which arose after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and declared its purpose “to respond to the hostile and openly anti-Russian actions of Western Russophobes. ”
The group’s main activity is conducting DDoS attacks on government websites and private organizations in countries that support Ukraine.
Last month, a NoName057(16) cyberattack was reported by a division of General Dynamics, as well as by Santa Barbara Systems, a Spain-based company that repairs Leopard tanks for delivery to Ukraine.
The investigation into the hackers jailed in Spain is being handled by a specialized prosecutor’s office. In turn, the Spanish Civil Guard continues to investigate in several areas to continue to identify participants in the attacks.
Microsoft has previously said that Russian cyber attacks are becoming more aggressive. The company also warned about the direct connection between the activities of states and cybercrime, especially between Russia and North Korea.
