Israel’s prime minister said the attack on the port of Hodeidah, 1,800 km away, was a response to the Houthi drone attack.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday, July 20, said that he initiated the attack on the Yemeni port, which, according to him, was not civilian, but was used for military purposes.
Netanyahu thanked the military for the successful attack on a target 1,800 kilometers from Israel’s borders. According to the prime minister, this strike shows the enemies that there is no place where Israel’s long arm cannot reach.
Netanyahu also said the strike was in response to a Houthi drone attack that killed an Israeli citizen.
“And finally, I have a message to Israel’s enemies: make no mistake about us. We will defend ourselves by all means on all fronts. Anyone who harms us will pay a very high price for their aggression, ” emphasized Netanyahu.
Earlier on Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that aircraft carried out strikes on the port of Hodeidah in Yemen. Videos released show burning fuel warehouses and other damaged facilities. In a statement, the IDF noted that it was a response to “hundreds of strikes on Israeli territory in recent months.”
Some media also reported that Israel acted in concert with the US and British militaries. However, this information has not been confirmed.
The Houthis’ political council said they would step up military operations against Israel in response to attacks near the port of Hodeidah.
