A criminal group that terrorized residents of the region was neutralized in the Odessa region. The gang was led by the head of the city council of one of the region’s port cities. The perpetrators tried to illegally seize a local recreation center located on the Black Sea coast. The press center of the Security Service of Ukraine reported this on Telegram on July 20.
It is noted that the bandits forced the owner of the recreational facility to give up 50% of the corporate rights to it. Subsequently, they appointed “their” man to manage the recreation center, who began looking for buyers for this complex.
Once buyers were found, the racketeers were going to “squeeze” the remaining 50% of corporate rights from the owner.
Investigators established that the mayor had involved a lawyer he knew, as well as controlled registrars and notaries, in the illegal scheme. They were supposed to re-register the tourist center to potential buyers.
The gang leader was caught red-handed while receiving a $30,000 deposit from customers at the tourist center. He was charged under Part 4 of Article 189 (organization of extortion of transfer of property rights with the threat of violence against the victim, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons under martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The perpetrators face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Let us recall that on July 19, the media reported that in the Odessa region, the Security Service of Ukraine officers detained the mayor of Belgorod-Dnistrovsky, Vitaliy Grazhdan. Law enforcement officers conducted searches in the mayor’s office.
