The Ukrainian leader will be the first foreign guest at 10 Downing Street since Keir Starmer was elected as Britain’s new Prime Minister.
The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky will speak at an extraordinary meeting of the UK government on July 19. This was announced on Thursday, July 18, on the UK government website.
Zelensky is said to be the first foreign leader to attend a British government meeting since US President Bill Clinton in 1997.
“Ukraine is and will always remain at the center of my government’s agenda, so it is fitting that President Zelensky made a historic address in my office,” Starmer said.
The Ukrainian leader is expected to update members of the British government on the situation in Ukraine, discuss the need to build Europe’s defense industrial base, as well as the terms of a £3.5 billion credit line for military exports.
“Russia’s gradual advance on the battlefield is nothing compared to the collective international support for Ukraine or the strength of the bond between our peoples,” Starmer added.
Earlier, Starmer said that Ukraine is fighting not only for the Ukrainian people, but for the European people, for freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
