Slovakia sees no reason for a boycott and no reason to act contrary to the sovereign position of the government of an EU member state.
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, during a visit to Hungary on July 18, confirmed that his country will not boycott the Hungarian presidency of the EU Council. This was reported by RTVS on Thursday, July 18.
He assured Hungarian President Tamás Szújok that the Slovak government will actively participate in events organized by the Hungarian side during its presidency.
Pellegrini added that Slovakia sees no reason for a boycott and no reason to act contrary to the sovereign position of the government of an EU member state.
Let’s recall that after Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s visits to Moscow and Beijing, as well as talks with the Turkish leader and US presidential candidate Donald Trump, the EU and NATO condemned his “initiatives for peace.”
Earlier, sixty-three members of the European Parliament demanded that Hungary’s membership of the European Union be stripped of their EU voting rights due to the actions of the country’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
It was also reported that Germany will join a boycott of the meetings led by Hungary in protest against the behavior of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
