The Chancellor recalled that Russia has withdrawn from all disarmament agreements, and Germany must respond to this.
In the near future, the West’s relationship with Russia will probably be determined by a policy of containment, but in the long term, disarmament agreements with the Russian Federation should re-emerge. This was said by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, writes Tagesschau.
“Everything we do must lead to the fact that we will once again have a time when arms control is discussed between the major states of the world,” he said.
At the same time, the Chancellor recalled that Russia has withdrawn from all disarmament agreements, and Germany must respond to this.
“So we have to be strong so no one attacks us,” added Scholz.
Let’s recall that in November last year Russia announced its withdrawal from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE). Later, NATO members suspended their participation in the agreement.
