In Peru, a bus with passengers fell several hundred meters down a mountainside on Tuesday, July 16. As a result, at least 23 people died and 13 were injured, Reuters reports citing local authority.
It was learned that the bus left the highway in Peru’s Ayacucho Andean region at dusk, overturned and fell heavily down a slope about 200 meters high.
The accident occurred on the Los Libertadores highway in Ayacucho in the south-central Andes, and rescue efforts are ongoing. The bus is owned by a local company, Turismo Molina Union SAC, and an investigation has been launched.
Fatal bus accidents occur in Peru, where many buses travel on unstable mountain roads or are driven by poorly trained drivers.
