There will be two forms of grave structures in the military cemetery – in the form of a cross and a slab with a rounded top.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the type of graves at the National War Memorial Cemetery (NWMC). This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Anton Drobovich and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs on Saturday, July 13.
Drobovich said the look of the cemetery will be based on Ukrainian military tradition, which is hundreds of years old.
And the Ministry clarified that there will be two forms of grave structures – in the form of a cross and a slab with a rounded top. They are the same height and will follow each other’s outlines.
According to Drobovich, thanks to this decision, NVMK will continue the centuries-old tradition (from ancient Cossack cemeteries to the most iconic Ukrainian military graves in the diaspora) of honoring fallen soldiers in the manner characteristic of our cultural context.
Anyone who does not associate themselves with Christianity (according to sociology, about 20% of believers) or simply does not want to have a cross on their grave has the option of an alternative choice – a rectangular table with a rounded that top. This issue was officially informed in advance to the representatives of religious organizations with the participation of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience,” said Drobovich.
“Soon a round table will be held with the participation of the professional community on the material of the funeral structure, which will be placed on the territory of NVMK,” the ministry reported.
As you know, the National War Memorial Cemetery is located near the village of Gatnoe, bordering Kiev.
It is also known when the funeral will begin at the military cemetery near Kiev.
