The reason for the destruction of the school is the unstable structure of the building itself and the fact that it is located near the river bank.
A school building collapsed during classes in central Nigeria. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on Saturday, July 13.
The incident is said to have occurred yesterday in Plateau State at Saints Academy in Busa Buji Society. 154 students were trapped under the rubble. Authorities later reported that 22 students had died.
The two-story building collapsed shortly after the children arrived for classes.
State authorities said the collapse was caused by the unstable structure of the building itself and its location near the river bank.
The publication recalls that such cases often occur in Nigeria, the most populated country in Africa. In the past two years, more than 12 such breakdowns have occurred.
Earlier in Nigeria, gunmen attacked a school and kidnapped about 300 students. Local residents tried to rescue the children, but the armed men pushed them back.
