For the first time in 40 years, Russian TV channels will not show the Olympics. None of the TV channels or streaming services in Russia got the right to broadcast the Olympic Games in Paris, writes sports.ru.
It was a political decision, the journalists wrote. The reason is that in the 2024 Olympics, Russian athletes will compete under a neutral flag.
It is reported that up to 16 athletes from the Russian Federation will go to the games and participate in competitions mainly in unpopular sports (except tennis).
The last time the Olympic Games were not televised in Russia was 40 years ago – when the USSR boycotted the 1984 games in Los Angeles.
Earlier, the mayor of Paris said that it would be better if the Russians did not participate in the Olympics.
Ukraine has confirmed its participation in the 2024 Olympics
