Russian intelligence services’ plans include recruiting criminals in other countries to carry out attacks.
Western intelligence agencies have uncovered Russian plans for assassinations, arson and other acts of sabotage in Europe against companies and people associated with supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This number includes the general director of the arms concern Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing an unnamed Western official.
According to him, Russia’s plans, in particular, include recruiting criminals in other countries to carry out attacks. An agency source said one of these plans was directed against Papperger. However, the official refused to give any details about Moscow’s other actions.
European leaders at the NATO summit in Washington this week spoke about combating a rise in hybrid attacks that they blame on Russia and its allies.
These include recent fires in industrial and commercial facilities in Lithuania, Poland, Great Britain, Germany and other countries, as well as migration pressure inspired by Minsk and Moscow.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also confirmed that the Alliance had detected a large-scale coordinated hybrid campaign launched simultaneously by Russia against several Alliance members.
Let’s recall that the day before it was reported that the United States and Germany prevented Russian plans to kill the general director of the arms manufacturer Rheinmetall, which supplies weapons to Ukraine. Predictably, the Kremlin said the information about the attempted assassination of Armin Papperger was “another fake.”
