The committee argued that the annual movement of the clock forward and backward by one hour “brings some negative consequences and causes great damage to the health of citizens during the adjustment period.”
The Economic Development Committee recommended that the Verkhovna Rada vote on a bill to abolish daylight saving time. This was reported by the press service of the parliament on Friday, July 12.
According to the explanatory note in the document, the purpose of project No. 4201 is to determine the legal basis for establishing time units, calculating time in Ukraine and ensuring the needs of citizens, society and the state for reliable information about the exact time and calendar date.
Justifying its position, the committee noted that “according to the majority of scientists and doctors,” the annual movement of the clock by one hour forward and backward “brings some negative consequences and causes great damage to the health of citizens during the period of adaptation.”
Citing “scientific research,” lawmakers emphasized that time changes have been linked to cardiovascular or immune system diseases because they disrupt biological cycles.
“It has also been proven that changing the clocks does not help save energy,” the committee concluded.
Let us remind you that in the near future deputies will consider the second reading bill No. 4201, which provides for the abolition of the transition from summer to winter time in Ukraine and vice versa. The first reading of the document took place in 2021.
Note that on March 26, 2019, the European Parliament voted to abolish the seasonal clock change starting in 2021.
Ukraine then announced that they intended to do the same. The corresponding bill was voted on in the first reading on March 3, 2021.
