Such blackouts are necessary due to peak electricity consumption amid heatwaves in Ukraine and Europe, with significant energy shortages in the Ukrainian power grid as a result of Russian strikes.

Ukraine has 24-hour blackout schedules. Most daylight hours are limited to 70% of consumers at once, it was reported Ukrainergo on Friday, July 12th.

“Oblenergos applies consumption restrictions throughout the day From 14:00 to 24:00, four queues of hourly power outage schedules will be used to compensate for the energy shortage in the system, and three wait for the remaining hours,” the message said.

SA Ukrainergo clarified that the four queues are the limit of up to 70% of consumers in each region. Such shutdowns are necessary due to the maximum consumption of electricity against the backdrop of abnormal heat in Ukraine and Europe, with a large energy shortage in the Ukrainian energy system as a result of the massive Russian attack.

According to the forecast Ukrainergonow at peak consumption will remain high and significantly exceed the existing capacity of the system to cover it.

Now from 00:00 to 06:00 to reduce the deficit Ukrainergo obtained emergency supplies from the Polish energy system. At night it was planned to attract emergency supplies from European countries.

Also, during the day, electricity is imported from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and Moldova with a total volume of 25,089 MWh, with a maximum capacity of 1,396 MW. Due to the extreme heat and increased consumption in Europe, the import volume decreased compared to yesterday.

Export is not in progress and is not expected.

In the morning, 478 settlements remained without power in Ukraine. Due to bad weather, there was a power outage in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Due to the fighting, there are blackouts in Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Sumy, Kharkov, Kherson and Chernigov regions.

For technical reasons, consumers in the regions of Zhitomir, Zaporozhye, Odessa, Sumy and Chernihiv are without power.

“The technical reasons for the outages are related to the effect of heat on high-voltage equipment and power lines, as well as the consequences of military operations in front-line regions,” Ukrenergo clarified .

It was previously reported that July will be the most difficult period for the Ukrainian energy system. Currently, nuclear power plants are undergoing scheduled maintenance.

In this regard, Prime Minister Denis Szmigal announced that the duration of the outages will soon be reduced.
