Afghanistan. The Taliban promise not to obstruct international aid

The ruling Taliban in Afghanistan on Saturday vowed not to hamper international efforts to help tens of thousands of people affected by the quake. A magnitude 5.9 earthquake shook the southeast of the country on Wednesday, killing at least 1,000 people and leaving thousands homeless.

In the past, humanitarian organizations have accused the Taliban of sending aid to people who supported their uprising against the pro-Western government. However, Khan Mohammad Ahmad, a senior Taliban official from Paktika province, which was hardest hit by the quake, promised that there would be no interference in the activities of UN agencies and international NGOs.
