The United States and Germany do not want to see Ukraine in NATO. The governments of these countries are “strongly opposing” the invitation to Ukraine. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron, DPA reports.
According to him, the Ukrainian authorities were extremely unhappy with the lack of an invitation to the previous NATO summit, which took place in Vilnius.
The Ukrainians were very irritated when they came to the conclusion that the door was open, but not that much. And I think the scenario of the Washington summit is the same, – the French leader noted.
However, Macron believes that the allies will sooner or later decide on Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance.
DPA later removed the news that Macron had named the US and Germany as the two main opponents of Ukraine’s NATO membership. The updated report said that “President Macron personally made no such statements.”
Recall that The New York Times reported that NATO will propose to Ukraine at the summit in July to create a new headquarters in Germany to manage military aid.
