Macron noted that the decision to invite Ukraine to join NATO will be made jointly by all Alliance allies.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that the United States, along with Germany, is now the main opponent in starting the process of Ukraine’s accession to NATO. The DPA agency reported this on Tuesday, July 9.
On the eve of the NATO summit in Washington, Macron noted the “strong opposition” of the United States and Germany to inviting Ukraine to the Alliance.
“Ultimately, it will be the decision of the allies to invite Ukraine to NATO,” he said.
He also predicted a similar scenario of events in Washington to the results of the previous summit in Vilnius:
“The Ukrainians were very annoyed when they decided that the door was open, but not much. And I think the scenario for the Washington summit will be the same.”
Let’s recall that Ukraine’s entry into NATO was supported by approximately three-quarters of the Alliance’s members.
Earlier, the Ukrainian president called on American leader Joe Biden to invite Ukraine to NATO now, even though it can become a member of the Alliance only after the end of the war with Russia.
