Analysis of video footage and findings at the scene of the incident indicate “a high probability that the children’s hospital suffered a direct hit” rather than damage as a result of a missile interception, said Danielle Bell, head of the UN human rights monitoring mission, Reuters reports.
She also stressed that her team cannot make a final conclusion, but it is likely that Russia launched the missile.
Additionally, Bell called yesterday’s attack on a children’s hospital “one of the most egregious attacks we have seen since the full-scale invasion began” in February 2022.
Today, the UN Security Council will meet to discuss the shelling of Okhmatdet. The aggressor country Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council and can veto resolutions of this United Nations body.
And on July 9, the Security Service of Ukraine reported that it had received new evidence confirming that Russia had struck Okhmatdet with an X-101 missile. A fragment of the cruise missile’s engine was found at the site of the tragedy.
The experts’ conclusions are clear: this was a targeted attack by Russian activists, the special service noted.
Meanwhile, it became known that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated UAH 100 million for urgent (priority) work to restore the destroyed (damaged) buildings of the National Children’s Specialized Hospital “Okhmatdet” and the state institution “Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Children’s Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery”.
Let us recall that on July 8, Russian occupiers committed another brutal act of terror against Ukraine. The enemy fired 38 missiles of different types. One of them hit the Okhmatdet children’s hospital, causing significant damage.
As a result of the Russian attack on the territory of the medical facility, two people were killed and 32 wounded sought medical assistance. Eight children were hospitalized with injuries.
